A CALL TO ACTION

For:

  1. The development of electric wheel motors which will allow the conversion of any existing vehicle to a hybrid, with the goal of seeing at least half the vehicle trips in and around Tucson by electric within 10 years. This to decrease CO2 production and diminish the smog haze. Ferdinand Porsche built an electric wheel motor car in 1902. Automotive manufacterers are slow to offer this. Why?

  2. The development of a decentralized point- of- use power generation with grid tie capabilities which would decrease fossil fuel use, and maximize solar, wind, and other non CO2 producing technologies. This with the goal of seeing 1 of 2 Tucson homes generating some minimal level covering basic neccesities in a decade. True Homeland Security means energy independence. Security can not come from acts of violence, justified by leaders who tell us there is much to fear. A patriot knows that the meaning of freedom is to live a fearless life. A great leader once said: The only thing we have to fear is fear itself -FDR

  3. The development of novel methods, and improvement of existing ones, (heat engines, Minto wheels, etc.), with the goal of utilizing abundant low level heat in hot water as a way to generate electricity. Orville & Wilbur Wright made airplanes out of kites and bicycles. This problem deserves similar devotion. What would Ben Franklin do?

  4. The transmission of positive thinking, possibility generating, creative software (such as the Intention Process developed by Tony Burroughs, Wayne Dyer, and others), to the hearts and minds of people with the goal of improving lives everywhere. The world is full of people who love to tell us why things can't be done. A great leader once said: "Some people look around the world and ask, Why? I look at the world and say Why Not! -JFK

  5. The development of Mesquite as an agricultural commodity (utilizing a food source already adapted to the desert). This with the goal of re-aquainting the Tohono people with this high fiber/low glycemic traditional food and reducing the toll, (measurable in millions of dollars) it exacts on their lives through diabetes.

  6. We propose solar furnaces for silica refinement. This desert is full of silica, which is the raw ingredient in silicon-based photovoltaics. We need as many of these as possible to capture the sun's energy and store it as electrical energy. Most roofs should be covered with photovoltaic panels. It makes little sense to use massive amounts of energy from carbon fuel sources to refine silica. Silica can be refined at greatly reduced carbon dioxide emission levels using the sun.

  7. Explore methods for reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere by growing food and plants that remove carbon from the air. Plants fix carbon as biomass which can then be used for other purposes, like feeding goats to create milk and cheese. We all need to think about what we can do to minimize the amount of carbon we produce on a daily basis. Life is full of choices at every moment...
